The challenge of finding what to wear every day is a difficult enough task as it is. Factor in an evening event and it gets a little more stressful. But what about if it’s to go to your husband’s freemasonry event? It can be notoriously hard to know what to wear for these events, especially if you have few ladies you can go to for advice. Let us help.
Freemasonry represents a few different things. For some it’s the opportunity to make connections that could lead to new business, but for many it’s about joining a charitable organisation. Members are expected to be of a high moral standing, and are encouraged to speak freely about freemasonry. It describes itself as one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations.
However, despite it primarily being a male dominated territory, there are several social events each year that wives and partners are invited to. Take it from us – don’t wait for your man to tell you the night before what the dress code is! Dress codes can vary a fair bit, from White Tie to Relaxed. So, what type of dress code requires more formal attire?
Firstly, White Tie – this is typically very formal, and calls for long gowns like those worn at the Oscars or the BAFTAs. However, events that require such an elaborate dress code aren’t particularly common, and so it’s the Black Tie dress code that you will probably have to adopt – if in doubt, just check with one of the organisers.
Black Tie is great - it means either a full length gown or cocktail dress is suitable, so you have a lot more freedom and can definitely find something that suits your style and shape. Strappy, strapless, it really doesn’t matter as long as you’re looking glamorous (just remember, not too short). And as for your man – he’ll be wearing a dinner suit. Get the camera ready!
Here at Frocks we offer a variety of long dresses and cocktail dresses so you can be sure to find something that matches the occasion perfectly. A word of advice – if your partner is dressing down slightly, then perhaps match that with your dress (or better still – encourage him to dress up to match your sparkles!) Don’t forget these are designed to be an event to celebrate, so have fun with it – it’s not often nowadays that ladies like ourselves have the excuse to dress up and look completely fabulous.
Why not go for a bright colour? We have some great red gowns, or perhaps something with a bit more bling to make you stand out. If nothing else it will be a great conversation starter, as typically the men are better acquainted with each other than the women.
Either way, dress to impress and enjoy yourself! And if you need any advice don’t be shy – come to see us and we’ll be more than happy to help.
