Feel Feminine in Florals

Feel Feminine in Floral Dresses

The Chelsea flower show, hosted by the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) is taking place this week, and boasts an impressive array of plants and gardens at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea. Last year’s show didn’t disappoint, with spectacular creations, stunning planting and impressive sculptures that surpassed all expectations. Chelsea flower show gardens represent the very best in garden design, and this year will no doubt go even further to impress.

So how can you possibly compete? Whether you’re green fingered or not, get into the spirit of the Chelsea flower show with a beautiful floral dress. Here at Frocks, we love a bright and pretty floral design, and have a gorgeous collection to complement your wardrobe this spring and summer.

From dresses suitable to wear during the day, to designs perfect for a Mother-of-Bride, our collection gives you great variety – even down to the choice of flower! Tulips perhaps? Lilies? Or maybe more of an abstract design - we have it all.

Floral prints becoming increasingly popular

Floral prints are great to get you noticed, but they also have some great tricks, making them a wonderful purchase you’ll be wearing time and time again.

  • They’re delightfully feminine, making them an excellent choice for picnics, parties, dates and weddings.
  • Tighter floral prints tend to be more casual, and are great at giving a slimming outline, complementing many different body shapes, see above far left and far right dresses.
  • Larger floral prints are great when tailored to fit your shape, and create a more formal feel to your outfit - see our Zeila dress above. These are great for weddings in particular.
  • Bright, bold hues are excellent for giving your skin tone a lift!

Where did floral prints originate from?

Floral prints first came to fashion in Asia, where flowers are an integral part of their culture. It was the chrysanthemum which was first used in floral prints - native to Asia, they are bright, colourful and represent sunny weather.

It wasn’t until the 1400s and 1500s that florals began to arrive in Europe, and to begin with they were extremely expensive! Thankfully, now everyone can purchase lovely floral printed dresses, and we’re pleased to have embraced the start of the summer with our pretty prints.

How to accessorise your floral dress

Partner with simple accessories for the perfect finish, as busy prints can easily be overwhelmed with too much jewellery. Our bold clutch bags would make a great choice to a floral dress as they can really bring out a particular colour in your outfit to make it pop! With yellows, pinks, blues and reds you’ll be spoilt for choice!
